During my test, the Redmi Note 4 had me captivated with its good performance and attractive price. Only problem : the ROM original is in English only. Here is a tutorial to fix this and add the Play Store as a bonus.

This tutorial was accomplished using a smartphone Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and a PC Windows 10. If you are using a different configuration, it is at your own risk. Pre-requisites
The devices Xiaomi are marketed with a version that only supports chinese and English. In addition, the Play Store is not pre-installed. For this last point, a small simple handling allows you to get it, I invite you to read our tutorial.
Install the Play Store on MIUI8
If you want to get a system more suited to France, and that you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty, then you can move on to the next. This article is an adaptation of the official tutorial of the MIUI team. You will need the following equipment :
- smartphone Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with MIUI 8 chinese version
- A PC under Windows 7/8/10
- The USB cable of the smartphone
- The software WinRAR
Make sure that the battery of the Redmi Note 4 is loaded to the block and that it is in the mode USB Debugging. To enable it, go to About Phone in the settings, and then tap 7 times on the version number of MIUI. This will activate the developer mode. See you in Additional settings > Developer options and check USB Debugging.
It is now necessary to download the following files :
Unzip each file in the folder of your choice with WinRAR. Go to the next paragraph to install the drivers MTK for Windows.

The next step is to install the drivers for the smartphone on Windows so that it is recognized when switching to Fastboot. If this is not already done, unzip the archive Driver_Auto_Installer_v1.1236.00.zip and then double-click on the file Install.bat. If Windows refuses to install, it is then necessary to withdraw the signature verification of drivers. For this, open a command in administrator mode : right-click on the start menu, then left click on command Prompt (admin). Enter the following commands :
- bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
- bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON
once done, retry to start the Install.bat. The window will ask you to press any key, do so. She should then immediately close. The drivers are installed.
Flash the ROM MIUI8
It is now necessary to launch the software SP Flash Tools in admin mode. Go to the directory where you have unpacked the archive, then right-click on Flash_tool.exe and click Run as administrator. The software will open. Look for the box Download Agent and click on it. In the window that opens, choose the file MTK_AllInone_DA.bin then Open. Since the tool SP Flash Tools, then search for the checkbox Scatter loading, normally located under Download Agent. Click and then look for the file MT6797_Android_scatter that is in the ROM you unzipped in the first step. Confirm by pressing Open.
a list of files shown in green should appear in the software SP Flash Tools. Select only the file boot and system, uncheck all the others.
be Sure to turn off your Redmi Note 4 and disconnect it. Connect the USB cable to the PC, but not on the phone for the moment. In the software SP Flash Tools, press the button Download. On the smartphone still unplugged, press the buttons on Power and Volume simultaneously, and then plug it immediately to the USB cable already connected to the PC. If you have proceeded as it should, a progress bar yellow will appear in the software and a logo Fastboot display on the Redmi Note 4. Release the buttons and let the flash do. In the end, the software will tell you that everything is OK.
Courage, it is nearly the end !
The phone should reboot once the flash is done. If this is not the case, manually restart and wait, the first launch is quite long.
The first reboot is a little long, be patient !
once the smartphone is started, it must be reset in order to properly complete the installation. Do not neglect this step, it is important to have a system clean and stable. To do this, go to Settings > Additional Settings > Backup and Reset > Factory Data Reset > Reset Phone. Once it is all cleared, you will be able to configure it in French and use the Play Store which is pre-installed. Enjoy !
