Senegal “takes note” of the retaliation of Israel after its vote to the … – Le Parisien

Le Senegal has received this week of Isräel “official notification” of the measures adopted after the UN vote for a resolution against the israeli settlements and “takes note”, the government has said in a press release received Thursday by AFP.
This resolution passed on 23 December by the security Council of the UN, calls on Israel to “cease immediately and completely all activity of colonization in the occupied palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem” and claims that the settlements “have no legal value”.
The adoption of the text has been allowed by the forbearance of the United States – who did not put thei r veto, and the vote of 14 other members. Senegal is currently one of the ten non-permanent members of the security Council.
The resolution, originally proposed by Egypt, was supposed to be voted on December 22. It was finally submitted to the vote the following day at the initiative of the New Zealand, Senegal, Malaysia, and Venezuela, after a reversal of Egypt.
a Few hours after its adoption, the israeli Prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had ordered “a series of diplomatic measures” against New Zealand and Senegal. Israel does not maintain diplomatic relations with Malaysia and Venezuela.
“Following the vote in Senegal in favour of the resolution” of the UN, Dakar “has been received, the Tuesday, 27th December 2016, the official notification of the measures” taken by the israeli government concerning it, wrote the senegalese ministry of foreign Affairs in a press release.
With these measures, he says, Israel “is a reminde r in consultation its ambassador in Senegal”, it “cancels the planned visit by Israel’s minister (senegalese) of foreign Affairs”.
In addition, he continues, it “cancels the presentation of the letters of credence of the ambassador of Senegal in Israel with residence in Cairo” and “cancels its programs of cooperation with Senegal”.
Until Thursday night, no numerical estimate could not be obtained by the AFP on the co-operation, and no source at the israeli embassy in Dakar will wished to express.
The senegalese government “takes note of these measures” of Israel, adds the ministry of foreign Affairs.
He “would like to recall that Senegal, which is also the current chair of the Committee on the exercise of the inalienable rights of the palestinian People (an organ of the united nations, editor’s NOTE) since its inception in 1975, has consistently supported, in accordance with the relevant resolut ions of the united Nations, the search for a just and equitable solution to the israeli-palestinian conflict, which is devoted to the existence of two States, within secure and internationally recognized borders”.
Senegal had restored its diplomatic relations with Israel in 1995.
