If it is not planned for Europe, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 arrived in North America in late last week together with the Galaxy S6 + edge. Since its unveiling and announcement of his absence in some markets, many people have expressed their dissatisfaction … demanding the return of high-end Android phone from the Korean brand with S-Pen stylus. We had the chance to take in hand for several weeks and we offer our back on the device.
Before you begin, you should know that the technical specifications of Galaxy Note 5 is relatively identical to that of the Galaxy S6 + edge. Inside, it is indeed the same components and that ultimately are the dimensions / weight and the presence of a flat screen and stylus that will really make the difference. Design
In terms of design, the Galaxy Note 5 contains the codes of the brand that we had seen the formalization of Galaxy S6 / S6 edge at the Mobile World Congress. Thus, the device is completely glass in the front and rear which gives it a slightly more upmarket finish. Some, however, regret the false leather that could offer better grip in hand. However, it is particularly appreciated that the back is curved, which ensures that, despite its large size, the phone is comfortable to handle. An effort was also made at the dimensions of the Galaxy Note 5 since it is more compact than the Galaxy Note 4 for the same display size, which is especially seen at the front panel display.
The location of the stylus changing and it will get used to it at first. Indeed, there are more notch to catch it and now need to press it to catch it. Finally, the fingerprint sensor S6 shows that of this year. This is a good thing since you have to put your finger on it to unlock the device particularly. So we forget the old restrictive system of S5 and in particular Note 4.
Obviously we can not discuss the design without mentioning the location absences microSD card, a removable battery and the infrared port . What put off some mobile users who may prefer to look towards competition … or the previous model. Finally, still no speakers on the front as is the case on other competing models.

Screen
As expected, Samsung has remained faithful to the Quad-HD Super AMOLED which will delight many users with deep blacks and vivid colors. The colors are easy to read and the videos really make good on this type of screen. You can adjust the color tone if ever you are not a fan of saturated colors.
Please note, the excellent readability of the screen in sunlight thanks to the use of high brightness on the screen and the use of strong contrasts. This is seen very well when left in automatic brightness adjustment, but obviously it will not be expected to have perfectly accurate color under these conditions.
Performance of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5
The unit is very responsive overall, and as for devices released this year, it also feels that effort was made to alleviate some TouchWiz. The feeling of fluidity and responsiveness of the system is present, but it must be said that the data sheet helps a lot the Galaxy Note 5. noted however some feedback about multitasking since Note 5 tends to reload the page from the application rather than taking the cached version, which would tend to provide slower recovery when switching from one application to another. Samsung has not yet made official return on this point.
In terms of numbers with Geeksbench particular, we can see that the Galaxy Note 5 presents fairly similar figures S6, S6 edge, S6 Edge +.
S Stylus Pen
The Galaxy Note is not a 5 rating if it did not evoke its stylus and associated features. Obviously, there is the Action Memo feature to take notes in the S Note application and intelligent selection to save a piece of content or writing to an image / screenshot. However, note the arrival of two new very useful features:
- The backup of an entire page by scrolling in full;
- The writing on the lock screen when you leave the stylus. I admit that this is one of the features I use most since I have the device. Indeed, in an emergency or just note quickly, just eject the stylus to take notes without even launching the application.
Run
If it was feared at that level with a battery capacity down from 4 to Galaxy Note, the Galaxy Note 5 is doing well in normal use of the device. It can easily take a day or more. Obviously very, very intensive in use, it will rely on fast charging this to be wired or even wireless, even if it is a bit slower than the first.
Note that ‘in addition to the power saving mode (which I confess I do not see very significant gain following my use), there is always an ultra power saving mode that passes the camera in black and white and is used to use only a few applications. Very handy when you can not do otherwise!
Camera / Video
I was pleasantly surprised by the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge with important changes compared to the Note 4. I must confess that the Galaxy Note 5 looks even go a little further. The 16-megapixel sensor, the aperture of f / 1.9 and Device Software Optimization allow us to make good shots in different conditions and also at night.
For those who want to go further, it is possible to use a pro mode for advanced manual settings and take his photos in Raw mode in this case. Moreover, there is always a variety of automated modes.
Nothing special about the video mode that seems pretty close to what we saw earlier this year, whether 1080p ( with the possibility of 60 fps), 4K or idle mode. The novelty comes from direct-broadcast on YouTube, even if we regret certain limitations, including the inability to switch to another camera dune during the broadcast.
Note that pressing the home button twice, it automatically launches the application Camera, which is much appreciated.
Overall impressions
The Galaxy Note 5 is a device that has a lot of attention when it announced that it is for their choices at the market, but also its technical compromise.
In use, it is a really nice camera to use with some very significant novelties. We can thus highlight the work done on the compactness of the model or to its rear curved edges. Moreover, some features such as writing when the screen is locked or the quick start of the camera are very practical.
Obviously, the lack of microSD card slot and removable battery is to be considered when choosing the phone. But that does not necessarily play for all users, already accustomed to this kind of compromise on other devices (unfortunately).
The group Samsung unveiled its phablet 5 Galaxy Note which retains its iconic pen the series and that was illustrated by a start PenGate . His enemy brother and compatriot LG Electronics may also him soon offer a smartphone with stylus derived from its model LG G4 .
