TGV accident in Rennes: who will pay the bill? – Le Figaro

VIDEO – After the collision of a bullet train and a tractor on a road between Rennes and Laval Sunday, SNCF decided to press charges against the vehicle owner. This could well have to repay the public company a portion of expenses incurred.

The figures speak for themselves. More than 6,000 travelers were affected by train delays in the evening of Sunday to Monday. The cause: the collision of a bullet train and a tractor to Noyal-sur-Vilaine on Sunday at 17h15. Traffic was then disrupted between Le Mans, Rennes and Paris until Monday morning. The accident, also made two minor injuries. If the train, through the voice of its spokesman Michel Pronost, claimed to have “escaped the catastrophe” because of the violence of the shock, the traffic is still disrupted: the passing trains can be done alternately, on a single channel. Two routes were affected by the accident. One was “cleansed”, the other should be “repaired by tomorrow [Wednesday]” after being damaged about 150 meters. But who will pay all damages? SNCF is preparing to file a complaint in the coming days.

Given the magnitude of the accident, the TGV had to be diverted to Nantes and director of the Atlantic TGV line, Philippe Mouly, explained earlier this week that 500 hotel nights were offered to travelers. The passengers arrived in Paris Montparnasse train station with a significant delay also enjoyed the 2500 taxis booked by SNCF. The company says in turn that, with regard to passengers for delays, “the travel guarantee does not apply in such cases, the responsibility is not the responsibility of the group. Exceptionally, it was decided to reimburse 100% of travelers two completely immobilized TGV and 50% all the other travelers affected by delays. ”

In addition to the delays, it will also be necessary to hand the portfolio to perform repairs on the damaged trains. The company has not yet quantified the amount of damage but there safe bet they will cost him dearly. It is on this point that the SNCF plans to support his complaint. “The responsibilities have yet to be established but it is proved that the owner of the tractor is at fault, it will cost him dearly, says lawyer law specialist victim, Jean-Michel Scharr. If there are injuries, they might even continue the criminal prosecution in addition to who will be engaged in civil cases. The insurance will cover in this case but the investigation will be decisive. “The procedure should determine the circumstances of the accident.

Asked about France Info First Deputy Mayor of Noyal-sur-Vilaine, Louis Hubert, explained that “the farmer was making hay, he had to get off his tractor (…) and it failed to apply the brake . And as the land is sloping towards the railway line … “. The farmer owner of the vehicle must be heard Wednesday. As for the injured, their injuries are fairly minor and no legal action has yet been mentioned.
