Samsung dredge iPhone owners with a test Rating 5 … – ZDNet France

Samsung introduced last week its latest models of phablettes, high-end devices: the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy 5 Edge + S6. Through these smartphones, Korean hopes will finally manage to restart in the premium segment where Apple and iPhone are racing in mind.

And during this launch, Samsung just interested in iPhone owners. What? Through a highly targeted promotional campaign. The manufacturer has just launched a test program exclusively in the US though.

Samsung dominated the high-end Apple

Samsung offers iPhone owners to register on its website for one dollar only. In exchange for this symbolic dollar, they will receive an Edge S6 + Rating 5 or Edge S6 that they can keep and use at no cost for 30 days

The marketing operation is not accompanied by any commitment or obligation to purchase. After the trial period, consumers who must imperatively hold an iPhone, can bring the Samsung smartphone, or acquire it.

And if the campaign is also Korean targeted, this is no coincidence. The manufacturer is in direct competition with Apple on the high end. But this rivalry has clearly turned in favor of the iPhone.

According to Gartner, in Q2 2015, Apple registered a double digit growth of its sales in the segment of high smartphones range. And this growth comes at the expense of Samsung.

43% of high-end smartphones sold in the US

Moreover, the high end is a clearly growing segment in the global smartphone market, including the US and China. “Smartphones are on the high end have captured 43% market share in Q2 2015, up from 38% in 2014 Q2,” comments GFK about the North American market.

In China, the share of sales of high-end smartphones is 17%, up seven points in one year. It is all the more essential in China to be well positioned in this segment as the smartphone market as a whole it declined by 4% during the quarter according to Gartner.
