You ask what’s inside the two controllers to the Oculus Touch ? Our colleagues from iFixit have the answer in pictures. If the dismount is a possible deal, she asked to take a few precautions.
While Oculus VR has just launched the commercialization of its controller Oculus Touch, our colleagues from iFixit have analyzed, in their own way, of course. Needless to strap on a virtual reality helmet for this, they have played the screwdriver to put it in the spare parts.
22 infrared LEDS, and a battery that is not glued… obviously !
For starters, they filmed the two controllers with an infrared camera to ” see ” how the sensors in Oculus the view. Each lever has a double row circular infrared LED’s (22 in total). The reasons are different, specify our colleagues, which allows the system to identify the two controllers and the headset avoiding the errors.
As we were at the announcement, iFixit was surprised to find two non-rechargeable batteries in the bundle… what is “ always better than those of a battery stuck ” indicate ironically our colleagues. For the price (199 euros all the same), one might expect at least to find rechargeable batteries.
final grade 5 out of 10 : too much glue and hidden screws
anyway, the presence of batteries which can be changed easily and the use of screws in a standard format are to be noted among the positive elements identified by iFixit.
on The side of regret, however, our colleagues indicate that the glue is widely used to assemble certain parts of the controllers. In addition, the joystick and some buttons are directly soldered to the PCB, which makes it more difficult to change one of the elements (you’ll have to play the iron and the desoldering pump). Finally, the presence of a few screws “hidden ” does not make the task obvious.
in The end, the score is 5 out of 10. The virtual reality helmet Rift Oculus for its part, had obtained a higher score : 7 out of 10.
