Primary left : Valls pays for a campaign of galerius – Marianne

His lieutenants were clearly intended a different scenario. Certainly, Manuel Valls has called this Sunday, January 22nd for the second round of the primary of the socialist Party. Certainly, it has done more than his 5% from the previous primary, in 2011. But his evening is marked by a large black point : with 31% of the vote, according to results, still partial, it only happens in second position, behind Benoît Hamon (35%), the man who campaigned in typing (very) strong against government action of a certain… Manuel Valls ! Suffice to say that the week between the two rounds is likely to be very complicated for the former Prime minister. As Benoît Hamon has recorded the immediate support of Arnaud Montebourg, while Manuel Val ls was not able to count on the one of the fourth man of this primary, Vincent Peillon, which has not given any instructions on voting.

For Valls, the blow is hard. It is necessary to say that his campaign has been a way of the cross. The beginnings had already given a furious impression of improvisation at the beginning of December, when it was declared a candidate only four days after the resignation of François Hollande. He had even had to change the slogan in an emergency, so the first formula sounded hollow (” To win everything that brings us together, “). But since then, the floating sensation has never really dissipated.

On the question, first, about-face to the shovel. at the beginning of the campaign, in the space of a few days, the candidate Valls denies, in large part, an identity that it has, nevertheless, patiently developed, that of the transgression within the PS. the One who had theorized on the left ” inconsistent ” for… ” reconciliation “ to the left, without so much convince. Side proposals, more a question of ” unlock “ the 35 hours, or remove the wealth tax : its economic programme has been designed to not make waves, if we except the recycling of the tax exemption of overtime, emblematic measure of the quinquennium Sarkozy. More question, no longer of use 49-3 : the former of the prime minister now has the gall !

No “decompression chamber” after the prime minister

” It appeared to be contradictory, or even inconsistent “, summed up this week a friend of François Hollande, adding : ” Valls was believed that the withdrawal of Holland would automatically make its legitimate application, but it was a mistake. We do not spend of the prime minister to a candidate for the presidential election without a decompression chamber. It is he who pays the note to the discontent of the quinquennium. “ Valls has not been able to count on strong support from his former colleagues of the executive. François Hollande himself has been a deafening silence during the campaign and has not even voted in the first round, since he is moving to Chile.

Worst : a part of the PS has sought to sabotage Manuel Valls in parachuting by surprise, Vincent Peillon in the primary. Supported by close to François Hollande, Martine Aubry, or Anne Hidalgo, the former minister of national Education has attempted to embody a line of balance within the PS, from biting the calves of the ex-Prime minister. During televised debates, where Valls appeared tense and on the defensive, Peillon is sometimes banded together with Arnaud Montebourg and Benoît Hamon to criticise its balance sheet.

And then there’s this violence that has punctuated the movements of Manuel Valls : on December 22, the 17 of January, by an auditor on the antenna of France Inter, the next day, tossed to and fro by the anti-49-3 during its last meeting in Paris on Friday… Anecdotal ? Not that much, based on the outcome of this Sunday evening.

Violent, this week between the two tours will, without a doubt. At the foot of the wall, Valls has committed hostilities upon his post-first round, with the duel between Hamon and himself as ” the choice between the defeat is assured, and the victory possible, between promises and unrealistic and a left credible who assumes the responsibilities of the countries “. Nothing less.
