Jazz: Blue Note settles in China – The World

One of the most famous American jazz clubs, announced Thursday, June 25 that he was going to settle in China.

The Blue Note, one of the most famous jazz clubs in the world, announced Thursday June 25 he would move to China where he is counting on the appetite of affluent consumers for concerts.

The US club will open in Beijing in March 2016, on the site of the Embassy US, in Tiananmen Square. Over the next three years, the institutions should also be opened in Shanghai and Taipei. An implementation is also planned for next year on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu in the US state of Hawaii, particularly popular with Asian tourists.

“Is that what I think ‘there is a strong demand for jazz right now in China? No, not necessarily. But I think we can participate in the development of the music and of the market “ said Steven Bensusan, president of Blue Note entertainment group, which does not preclude export to South Korea next.

The group had already set foot in Asia by opening a club in Tokyo in 1988 and in Nagoya later. Japan already had a stage dedicated to jazz before the Blue Note happens, and Japanese tourists are a significant part of the public of the historical club in New York.

Jazz has been present in clubs in China in the 1920s and 1930s when the legendary trumpeter Buck Clayton began his career before returning to the United States. The first Blue Note club in Europe has opened in Milan in 2003. Paris and London are now being considered.
