Samsung introduced the first version of Galaxy Note in 2011 and stood out in the beginning, in addition to its large screen size, by using the S-Pen designed by Wacom pen which sought to facilitate navigation on the phone. With its 5-inch screen, the Galaxy Note contrasted at the time with the rest of the competition by creating segment phablettes, hybrid halfway between the smartphone and tablets, and was aimed at a market segment seeking an alternative between these two devices. Ambitious challenge at the time, it is clear that today is phablettes school, Apple itself has succumbed to the trend of the big screen for its new portable devices.
But if competition followed suit, the Galaxy Note 4 can nevertheless still based on several characteristics that make it valid in a professional context: windowing, character recognition via the use of the S-Pen and obviously Knox, the solution Samsung mobile containerization. We have taken in hand to test the features touted by Samsung. No thorough test of the device, we leave that to our colleagues in the specialized hardware, but rather a passing review of pro features of this new large format camera.
No Knox without MDM
First disappointment: Knox will not be included in this test. For several reasons also very relevant: first we plan to address the case of solutions of this type in a paper aside and secondly, Knox is not available for Galaxy Note 4 sold to unity in the trade and are proposed as through business deals. Make no mistake (as was my case …) if the application is well MyKnox available via Google Play Store is actually a solution to secure access to a Microsoft Exchange mail account and not Complete application for creating a containerization hermetic barrier between the characters and the data pro data.
But the Galaxy Note 4 has other strengths. Foremost among these, the advanced features of multifenêtrages , allowing the user to browse two different applications simultaneously. Main advantage of PC and tablet deal with smartphones, Samsung has tried to offer its solution to alleviate the difficulties inherent in smartphones by offering a multi-display applications.
With a single press of the left button, you can access all applications and can choose two to coexist on the Galaxy Note screen. If the feature is useful to combine such a note editor with a browser and copy / paste everything is, this proves a bit more limited when you get into the more complex operations. The Galaxy Note 4 is not as comfortable as a traditional desktop for multitasking, yet we appreciate the effort.
A multifunction stylus
Another major argument of the Galaxy Note: pen , or S-Pen, who returns this time in a Version surrender to contemporary taste and relies on a screen with 2048 pressure levels. As in the previous version, the detection pen found before even touching the screen and the Air Command application that provides access to a drop-down menu with a simple press on the pen. The stylus is directly integrated into the device and a configurable alarm sounds to remind you to order if you turn off the phone without storing it in its sheath.
Using the stylus is thought to navigate the interface (the tester operated under Android 4.4.4 with Samsung TouchWizz overlay) but also for note taking in through the S-Note application. This application allows without problems noted on the fly on the phone screen, although it deplores a slight latency sensitive surely require an adjustment period. It was however impressed by was the character recognition, which has adapted without much trouble in my handwriting that more chaotic and still manages to transform phones or text numbers scrawled in a hurry in clear typeface and intelligible to any machine that respects himself.

Another option proposed by the pen: intelligent selection that allows easy content on such web page and then incorporate them into a document as S-Note. If a selection of classic text block is generally recognized very simply, the method has a little more difficult to convert bullets and other forms put in a little more complex.
You can also easily embed photos in a document via the S-Note application. However, it is recognized that text recognition works by less well: scan a business card and get a phone number for the scan and add to his personal repertoire is still a little iffy. Better be worth it down quickly using the stylus, especially through the action memo feature makes it very easy to associate an action to a written text or number using the stylus.

A high-end smartphone
Among the interesting applications, we also noted the Voice Recorder : useful as a supplemental dictaphone, the Galaxy Note also offers basic editing functions but simple to take hand and effective. Probably not as a grown Pro Tools, the tool still allows for fairly accurate cut and loop segments, just to facilitate transcription of recorded lectures using the telephone, or to isolate the voice of a particular interlocutor. Basic, but well designed.

The AMOLED screen that boasts its 3 megapixel displays beautiful colors and image quality quite honorable. The Galaxy Note also provides identification via fingerprint : If the sensor is sometimes a bit temperamental, there is never blocked by this feature that recognizes no problem fingerprint of the user. If a problem (a severed finger, it happens to everyone) password does allow access to the user’s session.
However Galaxy Note 4 is not given, have at least 650 euros naked to get their hands on the latest addition to Samsung. The smartphone is therefore aimed at the premium segment and will surely seduce allergic to the iPhone that allow themselves convinced by the functionalities for S-Pen stylus. The interface can be a bit chaotic and takes some time to adapt but overall, Galaxy Note 4 delivers on professional and practical uses.
