Samsung introduced the first version of Galaxy Note in 2011 and stood out in the beginning, in addition to its large screen size, by using the S-Pen designed by Wacom pen which sought to facilitate navigation on the phone. With its 5-inch display, the Galaxy Note at the time contrasted with the rest of the competition by creating the segment phablettes hybrid halfway between the smartphone and tablets, and was aimed at a market segment seeking an alternative between these two devices. Ambitious challenge at the time, it is clear that today is phablettes school, Apple itself has succumbed to the trend of the big screen for its new portable devices.
But if the competition followed suit, the Galaxy Note 4 may yet still rely on several characteristics that make it valid in a professional context: windowing, character recognition via the use of the S-Pen and obviously Knox, the solution Samsung Mobile containerization. We took it in hand to test the features touted by Samsung. No thorough test of the device, we leave that to our colleagues in the specialized hardware, but rather a passing review of pro features of this new large format camera.
No Knox without MDM
First disappointment: Knox will not be included in this test. For several reasons besides quite relevant: firstly we plan to address the case of solutions of this type in a paper apart and secondly, Knox is not available for the Galaxy Note 4 sold Single commercially and is only available to business through tenders. But the Galaxy Note 4 has other strengths. Foremost among these, advanced multifenêtrages , enabling the user to navigate two different applications at the same time functions. With the push of the left button, you can access all applications and can choose two to coexist on the screen of the Galaxy Note. The Galaxy Note 4 is not as comfortable as a traditional desktop for multitasking, yet we appreciate the effort.
A multifunction stylus
Another major argument Galaxy Note: stylus , or S-Pen, who returns this time in a Version surrender to contemporary taste and relies on a screen with 2048 pressure levels. Using the stylus is thought to navigate the interface (the tester working on Android 4.4.4 with Samsung TouchWizz overlay) but also for taking notes in through the Application S-Note. This application allows no problem noted on the fly on the phone screen, although a slight regrets sensitive latency probably require a period of adaptation. It has however been amazed by the character recognition, which has adapted without too much trouble in my handwriting more chaotic and still manages to turn phone numbers or texts will quickly scribbled in clear typeface and intelligible by any machine that meets.

Another option proposed by the pen: intelligent selection that allows easy content on such web page and then incorporate them into a document as S-Note. If a selection of classic text block is generally recognized very simply, the method has a bit more difficult to convert bulleted lists and other put in a little more complex shapes.
You can also easily incorporate photos into a document via S-Note application. However, it is recognized that text recognition works less well here: a business card scanner and retrieve a phone number to scan and add to his personal repertoire is still a bit iffy. Better be worth it down quickly using the stylus, especially through the action memo feature makes it very easy to associate an action to a written text or number using the stylus.

A high-end smartphone
Among the interesting applications, we also noted the Voice recorder : to serve as a useful extra voice recorder, the Galaxy Note also offers basic editing features but simple to learn hand and effective. Probably not as a grown Pro Tools, the tool still allows for fairly accurate cut and loop segments, just to facilitate transcription of recorded lectures using the telephone, or to isolate the voice of a particular interlocutor. Basic, but well designed.

For all the Galaxy Note 4 is not given, count at least 650 euros naked to get their hands on the latest Samsung. The smartphone is therefore aimed at high-end segment, and will surely attract allergic to the iPhone that let convince the functionalities S-Pen stylus. The interface can be a bit chaotic and takes some time to adapt but overall, Galaxy Note 4 delivers on professional and practical uses.
