IFA 2014: Samsung, the Note and bonuses – Digital Age

The IFA is or has been announced the first Galaxy Note since the Korean launches new version of its phablette each time. The IFA 2014 is no exception as the Galaxy Note 4 was introduced. First major change to the score 4 compared to its big brother is the introduction of a metal frame. Long-sought the use of fine materials. For now we have to settle the frame, now made of aluminum. It’s very pretty and well finished (and it reminds the iPhone) but we would have liked the back have the right to equal treatment or at least a more sober (we find our friend the fake leather) plastic.

Technically Note 4 could not be more to the taste of the day: super AMOLED WQHD slab 5.7 inches, Snapdragon processor 805 Listed picture is a 16 megapixel sensor that was chosen. Features aside the Note 4 represents for us a great step forward from Samsung, especially in terms of finishing. For the first time in years we did not feel ripped off on this.

Note 4 also has the right to an alternative: Note the Edge. The latter is technically almost identical to Note 4 except its screen that is curved on the right edge. Technically performance is admirable and an aesthetic point of view the result is superb. Still, we are not quite convinced. On the one hand this curve does not result in better comfort, biting edges in the hand. Moreover the extra space is not used particularly interesting. We win a toolbar and reporting but little else … We’ll see how the Note Edge manages to use after a few days of testing.

To end the different rating, we also tried the Galaxy VR, the virtual reality headset designed in collaboration with Oculus. Technically the implementation is very clean: we clipped the score 4 while connecting USB.

A small touchpad along with a button has been added to one side of the helmet. Once on the skull, the helmet is comfortable and is soon forgotten. The angles his somewhat reduced (96 ° against 100 on the DK2) but the display quality is much better thanks to the slab WQHD. After a few demos but it remains apparent that it will show even higher to not see the pixels. We also noticed some problems with responsiveness, with colors that “drooling” during rapid movements.

The most interesting point of this collaboration is probably the store application and content creation with Oculus. As we suspected, it is a showcase for movies hand, with official player and collaboration of several major studios like Marvel or Legendary. Next game it’s still quite limited for the moment, we have seen such a Temple Run in the first person. Entertaining but not fantastic. French release date is still unknown, it is indeed necessary for local teams time to negotiate on a case by case content with rights holders.
