Volkswagen may have provisioned 400 million euros to fund a recall in the United States of vehicles equipped with airbags Japanese Takata group, understands Sunday Welt am Sonntag.
A spokesman for Volkswagen s’ declined to comment on the amount advanced by the Sunday newspaper, citing an inside source to the group.
the three major German carmakers have announced in early February that their US subsidiaries would recall 2.5 million vehicles equipped with airbags in question, latest episode setbacks of Japanese equipment.
Volkswagen said that 850,000 of its vehicles were concerned, while BMW will recall 840,000 and Daimler, the parent Mercedes-Benz, also 840,000. Daimler has already indicated that it would record a charge of 340 million euros for this purpose.
