Or not rating note? Focus on student assessment in Europe – La Voix du Nord

Finland: written assessment, self-assessment, colors

The Board of Education provides guidance, but each school sets its practices . Many use written appreciations for ten years. Self-assessment is also practiced, such as colors for kids . The is not recommended numerical scores because it “does not give the means to react with remarks that could enhance learning.”

Some schools give feedback “very analytical” elsewhere the teacher chooses a rating from prewritten assessments.

Since 2004, to facilitate comparison between schools, the Department established national criteria for assessing learning acquired at the end of the school mandatory (15-16 years). The required level in each subject is 8 on a scale of 4 to 10.

The system does not really arouses debate in a listed best student by OECD countries.

Sweden: no notes before 12 years too early for some

The Swedish students are marked from 12 years with letters A to F . An F means that the student has not mastered the required objectives. This system, in force for two years, is criticized. Scale is considered complex, some believe students 12 years not mature enough to be noticed

Previously, students were recorded from 14 years: G (pass), VG (successful), MVG (very successful). Only students could fail to duty with GI (missed)

Germany. “1″ is the highest rating

In Germany education depends State-Regions . . A conference of Ministers of Education of the Länder ensures a certain homogeneity

At the Grundschule from 6 to 10 years, a rating system exists – from 1 (very good) to 6 (inadequate ), with an average of 4 – but in the early years, children are generally rated , the assessment is rather verbal. In the last years of high school, the rating is from 0 to 15 (highest), including the year of the Bachelor (Abitur).

All that puts pressure on children arouses suspicion addition -rhin.

In September 2014, the Minister of Culture of Schleswig-Holstein (North) decided to remove the notes in 394 primary schools in this Land led by a Social Democrat, judging “neither objective nor reliable.” Conversely, the Minister of Education Curator of Bavaria (south), defended the rating, which has “proven” and allows “to compare the level.”

Switzerland notes in places removed and then restored

The rules depend on the cantons. Since 2010, a federal provision allows harmonization.

Before eight, a rating system is applied, then a rating from 0 to 6 including maturity (equivalent baccalaureate).

In 1997, some cantons had given the notes are then returned. In Geneva, there has even been a referendum in 2009. 74.5% of voters voted for a return to the notes

England stickers “Well done”

On a daily basis, the English students are graded on their homework, usually by numbers. Everyone progresses at their own pace. The encouragement is required, especially in primary, is distributed with a ladle stickers “well done”.

In the absence of repetition, schooling focuses four cycles at the end of which level is expected but not required . A first evaluation occurs around the age of seven, and then tests to assess the level eleven. The “General Certificate of Secondary Education” and “A-Level” equivalent patent and bachelor are rated on a scale from A to G for the first, A to E in the second.
