Education : the wrong note of the French school children – Franceinfo

A survey has just been published, this Tuesday, November 29th, on the level of French students. It focuses on the skills in mathematics and science. “More than 600 000 students of 10 years in 48 countries participated in the test,” explains Sybille Broomberg. In France, 5 000 pupils of CM1 responded to questions. “On the 28 countries of the european Union, the young French show the worst results in math as they are. They are next-to-last in science, just ahead of Cyprus“, describes the journalist on the plateau of France 3.

not surprisingly, in math as in science, the five asian countries are leading the world ranking with Singapore in mind. Sybille Broomberg returns to the French case. “the Other alarming findings : 13% of students in math and 12% in science would not even have the basic knowledge. In our country, the majority of our teachers would be from the sectors non-scientific and would experience more difficulties in transmitting these contents,” she continued. These tests took place before the new programs put in place in September 2016.
