Patients radicalized: a note of recommendations for doctors – BFMTV.COM

Doctors are increasingly likely to find themselves confronted with the phenomenon of radicalization, particularly Islamist. To help them, the National Council of the Medical Association (Cnom) recently published a Note to tell them what to do in case of a patient being radicalization or already radicalized.

Note , revealed Friday by Le Parisien, is available on the website of Cnom since December 9. It provides that doctors can get rid of professional secrecy. “We wanted that doctors can provide a coherent response to the problem while avoiding the pitfall of unfair reporting which would be equally damaging,” explains Jean-Marie Faroudja, president of the Ethics and Compliance section of Cnom.

Should we report them radicalized patients?

In his note, the Cnom recalls that the physician is required to respect professional secrecy “by the law and the code of medical ethics.” “However before certain proven radicalization of situations likely to involve risk of dangerous behavior on the part of the patient, physicians are faced with a case of conscience where they can legitimately consider not having to keep to themselves what has been entrusted to them or remarked, “is it stipulated.

“This is part of each case. And, doctors may turn to the county councils to seek their advice,” explains Dr. Faroudja. The Cnom recalls that in the case of minor patients, the law already provides for an exemption from the obligation to respect professional secrecy to protect the child. The doctor may provide information (such as the draft from doing jihad) to a specific structure of the collection of cell disturbing information (Crip).

A clear differentiation with Fundamentalism

The College of Physicians is prudent on the definition of radicalization: ‘The radicalization should not be confused with religious fundamentalism: the fundamentalists are practitioners who adopt rigorous worship postures but resort no to violence while legitimizing radicals or practice acts of violence. ”

“It takes a consistent signal beam” insists Jean-Marie Faroudja. “The radicalization is defined by three cumulative characteristics: a gradual process; adherence to an extremist ideology; the adoption of violence” and details the note.
