A handwritten note from Justin Trudeau is the envy of collectors – CBC

A note in which Justin Trudeau expressed his optimism in 2013 to defeat Stephen Harper in elections is for sale on the eBay auction site.

In 2013, Mr. Trudeau was in the race to become Liberal leader. Michael Kydd, a Conservative supporter who was in the same plane as him, between Halifax and Ottawa, handed him a note asking him if he was able to defeat Mr. Harper.

Justin Trudeau wrote, “Just watch me,” that is to say, “You have seen nothing yet,” and he gave the note to Mr. Kydd. Justin Trudeau had alluded to a famous line started by his father, the former Minister Pierre E. Trudeau, during the October Crisis.

Michael Kydd explains that it was a test to see what kind of person is Mr. Trudeau. He said he understood why people voted for him.

Following Monday’s elections, Mr. Kydd put the note for sale on eBay. The minimum bet was set at $ 2,500. Thursday early afternoon, the latest bid amounted to $ 6,700. The auction will close Thursday.

Michael Kydd said he had a year somewhat difficult, and that the money would help. This former professor of the University Mount Saint Vincent in Halifax, resigned when his affair with a mature student went public. He is now owner of a firm that provides crisis management services.

Michael Kydd added that he again crossed Justin Trudeau by chance in a hotel in Ottawa, some time later. He said they both exclaimed that this story of note had drawn their criticisms of their respective political party.

Mr. Kydd says he laughed heartily, and Mr. Trudeau finally keep his promise by winning the elections.

Justin Trudeau at the time confirmed the authenticity of the note with a message on Twitter:
