Labo – Samsung Galaxy Note 7, an even better screen – DigitalVersus

The Galaxy Note 7 last terminal Samsung expected on the high end in 2016, has finally arrived to our laboratory. As is customary, the screen is the first thing to suffer our protocol. With a second year of high caliber in this area, the Note 7 was obviously expected at the turn. Both say right away, this display is perfect … desperately.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2016 vintage is reached until the French market, unlike its predecessor, which had shunned France. The high end of the Korean firm is read by screen size, with a 5.1 inch Galaxy S7 (13 cm), a Galaxy S7 edge to 5.5 inches (14 cm) and Note 7 to 5 7 inch (14.5 cm). Point + Edge this year Note 7 holds alone the torch giants Samsung flagships. But the love of curves and larger sizes can rest assured the Note 7 enjoys a slightly curved edges on screen – unless the S6 edge + however, slightly down rather giving the feeling of being there to strengthen the effect of edges without screen. That’s the predominant feeling here and it is reminiscent of the Sony Xperia Ultra XA in lesser

Now we come to one that makes much of the display work. Slab Super Amoled 5.7 inches. It has the same definition as her little sisters, ie 2560 x 1440 px for a mathematically lower resolution of 515 dpi. The latter is largely sufficient for all current uses, even reading text, the letters appear crisp and chiseled. Obviously, the issue of VR is relevant: past experiences with similar screens have shown us that such a resolution was just a bit.

Super AMOLED technology has an advantage over its competitors. She is able to offer a contrast ratio of almost infinite, as LCDs are far from approaching on smartphones. Best IPS panels, like that of the iPhone 6s Plus, reach about 1700: 1. However, the maximum brightness we measured was a bit disappointing. Here it is 552 cd / m² and is therefore only “very good” compared to the values ”excellent” for GS7 that exceed 600 cd / m². You will understand, even with a shot worse, the Note 7 has a nice margin. All this allows it to offer a high readability fly, even in direct sunlight, especially as the rate of light reflection is once again exemplary, 8%. Only a handful of smartphones are able to go below the 10% mark. Among these we find the GS7, GS7 edge, Meizu Pro 6 or iPhone 6s. The screen of the Note 7 has so far only scratched a hedge in his race to the title of best display. This is not the second part of the test – more known as colorimetry – he stumble. Indeed, for some time, Samsung proves that the color fidelity is something that is able to offer, even beyond the very high end. However, remember that the Korean manufacturer equips its devices with 4 screen profiles: Adaptive, Cinema, Photo and Basic. Invariably, the first 3 tend to put forward flashy colors and a rather cold atmosphere. The latter is the one that has our preference because it comes closest to the color fidelity standards.

Colorimetric

Delta E = 2.2

So in Basic mode, we found an excellent delta E of 2.2 (reminder delta E represents the difference between the actual colors and the colors displayed). This is certainly not the lowest we’ve seen, but it is placed under the 3, in which we consider that only a highly trained eye can detect drifts. The vast majority of high-end devices in 2016 falls below this value, Sony is an exception with its Xperia X. color temperature side, the Galaxy Note 7 fails at some hair of the standard (6500 K), with a measurement to 6870 K. light “cold” on the screen that is not really visible to the naked eye. The Note 7 is here better than iPhone 6s Plus (7151 K), but less than 10 HTC (6526 K). The gamma curve is stable at 2, slightly below the ideal average of 2.2.

Side responsiveness, large screen Galaxy Note 7 remains in contact with the very best. We measured a touch delay 62 ms, far enough from the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, masters in the field with 29 and 23 ms. Note however that the score of the Samsung class in 15% of the best in the discipline of our comparison. We also realized that measure with the pen Note 7 and got the same result, nearly 2 ms (60 ms). To end on a rating of excellence, we found a time no afterglow, thank you the AMOLED.

Each new high-end device from Samsung that we spend in the laboratory just dethrone another on the top step of our comparison. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 becomes the first discipline “screen” in front of his little brothers Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. The iPhone 6s Plus is ejected from the podium and fails the 4 th instead. Do not attach too much importance to that ranking is intended only to decide perfection, these screens are generally excellent.

We let you digest all this and start again to work quickly to deliver a comprehensive test this Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
