The Tokyo Stock Exchange ended Thursday up 0.49%.
The Nikkei gained 96.83 points 19,944.41 and the Topix broader took 7.65 point (0.48% ) to 1602.32 points.
The session was very active with 1.8 billion shares traded on the first market.
On the foreign exchange component, the dollar was part slightly up from the previous day to 122.58 yen, a favorable movement in the shares of Japanese exporters groups. Conversely, the euro retreated again to 130.19 yen, hit by news reports that the European Central Bank (ECB) is preparing for further easing.
